Arabesque Wedding Inspiration
Yesterday was my 6th year wedding anniversary and as I finally welcome spring in New York, I was reminded that the start of the bridal season is here. I put together my favorite looks from spring and fall 2018 bridal collections from my favorite bridal designers and some new recently discovered designers. I have to say that as much as I think those big fluffy traditional wedding dresses are fun, I prefer something elegant, unique and sexy. Six years ago when my husband and I eloped in Hawaii, I wore a knee-length, sleeveless, tailored-fit white dress by British/Sicilian Designer Antonio Berardi and sand-proof jelly Melissa shoes. It was simple, elegant and sexy with a silver zipper running all the way down the back. It was perfect for our super intimate summer beach wedding in the in the hot sun. (When I say intimate, it was literally just me, my new husband, the minister and his camera crew, and our 5-week baby bun in the oven). This probably the only time in my life that I wore white. 
This season I came across these outstanding bridal looks below that transported me to the Mediterranean weddings, where the sights, sounds, and tastes are a pleasure to the senses. The lace-veiled bride sits mysteriously on an ornate throne-like chair like a queen before her banquet. A live band plays traditional Arabic folk music on wooden instruments. Belly dancers slowly unwind into the scene with a hypnotic dance, their hips slicing through the air, their arms twisting gracefully like serpents as they circle around the married couple. Then there is that magical sound of the belly dancer’s gold coins and jewelry soft clanking like a wind chime. The wedding guests stand up and dance around the couple as they toss hands full of cash and coins at the couple’s feet.
If we were to renew our vows, I would probably choose to do it in Morocco and go for a mysterious, sultry, romantic look. Detailed with gorgeous lace that reminds me of my Spanish grandmother’s hand crocheted doilies… or even maybe go for a more relaxed bohemian rocker-chic look in a couture jumpsuit.
